History the Burnaby Counselling Group
The story of our team began with a vision of a young psychologist and pastor, Paddy Ducklow. He founded the Burnaby Counselling Group in 1979 as an inter-church ministry of the then Burnaby Christian Fellowship. The team began to serve the church congregations around the lower mainland and people in their communities. The ministry of the counseling group invited people who were struggling into a place where they could be cared for with compassion and clinical guidance to work towards building and rebuilding their lives. Many clients found solace in seeking help from counseling professionals who were spiritually rooted in the Christian faith and worked in a team approach to provide the highest quality of care.
Over the past 30 years the Burnaby Counselling Group’s professional team has expanded to include Registered Psychologists, Registered Clinical Counsellors, Registered Marriage and Family Therapists, Registered Play Therapists, a Pastoral Counselor, a Registered Social Worker, and Graduate level Counseling Interns from the ACTS Program of Trinity Western University. We are a charitable not-for-profit society that provides over 3000 hours a year of counseling on a sliding fee-scale to adults, adolescents, children, couples and families.
Collectively our team of diverse therapists has a wealth of experience and wisdom in the counseling field and is passionate about providing affordable and accessible professional support to those in need. As we focus on improving the well being of children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families, we aspire to empower our clients to become contributing members to their communities and society at large.
