John Chan - Chair of the Board, Board of Directors

John Chan serves as a board member at Burnaby Counselling Group (BCG). John graduated from Northern Alberta Institute of Technology in 1987 as a Dental Laboratory Technician. After a long and successful career, in 2010 John felt it was time for a change. He wanted a career that allowed him to make connections with people through teaching and mentoring. This would be the next adventure that got him out of his cubicle.

After exploring a number of options, in 2013, he joined a financial brokerage and began building a business in life insurance. As a long-time client of this firm, he understood how financial literacy enabled people to make full use of the knowledge and tools available to make wise decisions with their resources. Moreover, as a follower of Christ, John sees the importance of making these decisions with a biblical worldview. His business is built on the belief that financial planning is a journey through an ever-changing landscape with a guide, not a one-time transaction with a salesman. John’s vision is to help families flourish and in turn bless the communities they are in.

John and his wife Zerlina have three adult children and two grandchildren. Along with volunteering at BCG, he enjoys tinkering with various woodworking projects, outings with his grandkids, and serving in his church.
