Get to Know Emily

Emily strives to create an environment of warmth and acceptance with everyone she encounters. She likes to use laughter and light as well as anger and sadness to transform and connect. Emily works from a very systemic framework which means that she views everyone within their broader environment of culture and relationships. Emily believes that no matter what has happened or what has been done we have all done the best with what we have been given. She enjoys helping clients find a new awareness of self which can be the key to bringing about change and stopping the ingrained patterns of generations past. Emily recognizes that all relationships have times of distress, connection and restoration and each of these moments can help us grow together or grow apart. Emily feels honoured and privileged to be a part of the process of reconnecting and growing closer.

What to expect

Emily has experience working with couples and families, particularly around blended families and high-conflict divorce situations. She loves working with parents to help them feel empowered and equipped to parent their children by processing blocks and building up advanced caregiving skills. She also finds working with couples rewarding and it is very touching to witness couples take risks with each other; sharing their vulnerabilities and raw emotions which leads to connection. Emily also has experience working with adult individuals around self-esteem and trauma.

Education

Emily has completed her Masters in Marriage and Family Therapy in the USA and is a Registered Marriage and Family Therapist. She has completed Emotion Focused Therapy Level 1 for couples as well as Emotion Focused Therapy and Addictions. Over the past two years, she has completed the basic and advanced courses for Emotionally Focused Family Therapy (EFFT) and is currently working toward becoming a Certified Advanced EFFT Therapist and a Caregiver Workshop Provider.
