Get to Know Matt

Matt believes that every person has a fundamental need to be safe and to belong. If you feel darkness or storminess in your life, his hope would be that in meeting together you would experience shelter. He works to create an environment where care can be shown toward that who are vulnerable or hurting.

Matt does not believe in quick fixes or “magic cures”. He understands that it is important to slow down, name what is happening, and make careful decisions in times of crisis.

He works collaboratively with his clients and is attuned to navigating the “stuff” of therapy at the client’s pace.

It is in this way that he offers a counselling relationship to help in times of aloneness, suffering, confusion, change, grief, or loss.

Matt is an integrative therapist rooted in the person-centred tradition. He is trauma-informed and make use of feminist, developmental, systems, and attachment theories. His specialization is in working with teens and adults navigating concurrent disorders.

Matt's background

Matt holds a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology from Trinity Western University. He is a Registered Clinical Counsellor with the BCACC. Matt has extensive experience supporting 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals and works to make his counselling safe and accessible to queer folks. He also works to further educate himself and decolonize his practice to better serve Indigenous peoples.
