Gelareh Karimiha, Registered Psychologist
Get to Know Gelareh
Gelareh is a Registered Psychologist and holds a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Waterloo. She works with children and adolescents who have developmental and/or mental health challenges (including learning disabilities, ADHD, anxiety, OCD and depression). She provides counselling services for children and youth (ages 5-18) and their parents, as well as psychoeducational assessments (for ages 6-16). Gelareh provides a warm, safe and non-judgmental therapeutic environment for her clients. Gelareh believes that therapist empathy and compassion are critical to establishing a positive relationship with her clients. At the same time, she also believes in being solution-focused and working toward goals that are identified collaboratively. Gelareh is passionate about empowering her clients by helping them build on their repertoire of tools for managing challenging emotions and life situations, and helping them identify and draw on external and sustainable sources of strength in their lives.
My Story
After graduating in 2012, Gelareh worked in hospitals with children, youth and families facing mental health challenges. She has worked in private practice since 2016. Gelareh has experience with a number of evidence-based approaches to treatment including cognitive behavioural therapy, behavioural parent training, dialectical behaviour therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, and interpersonal therapy. She has also co-facilitated a number of groups for clients with anxiety, OCD and somatization.
