This workshop will help you to understand your emotions (core and inhibitory emotions) and defenses (what we may do to avoid feeling emotions) and help you connect with your calmest and most grounded self. Connecting and sharing with others about emotions can help normalize the emotions we have and to learn to move through tumultuous emotions with greater stability. And by doing it together, this decreases the feelings of aloneness.

Learn to recognize and allow your emotions to help you gain a greater awareness of yourself and to help you to practice inner compassion. Learn to connect with others and yourself more genuinely. This process of becoming more in-tune with your emotions can also help to decrease anxiety and depression.

Who is it for?

This course is designed for people who want to understand or make sense of their emotions, whether they show up as anxiety, depression, or anger (as just several examples) as well as for people who are supporting others on their journeys like parents, teachers, and healthcare professionals.

The structure of the class will be a mix of learning, gentle experiential exercises, questions and answers, and a space where group members can process what it is like to talk about emotions authentically with others.

*Please note that this workshop is not a therapy group and is not meant to replace therapeutic processing that may be suitable for group members.

What you will learn:

  • Participants will learn to identify defenses, the protective ways we avoid emotions.
  • Participants will learn to embody a stance that facilitates vulnerability and growth with others.
  • Participants will have the opportunity to experience core emotions like joy, sadness, and anger in safe and productive ways.
  • Participants will practice getting below anxiety and what this points to.
  • Participants will practice transforming shame and guilt.
  • Participants will learn how to spend more time in being in a place of greater open-heartedness Emotion Education 101.

Comments from Past Participants

The most impactful part was learning how to self-regulate and make the mind and body connection. Understanding how emotions could be experienced in the body too. There were so many take aways from the course, I would highly recommend it. – Naomi –

I really enjoyed the experiential exercises and the teaching component. It was very cool to learn a bit of psychology, and see how it manifests in our physical bodies. The experiential exercises were also a huge game-changer, and helped me start to develop abilities to soothe emotions and become more calm and relaxed. – Jasmine –

Breathing exercises were very helpful in preparing my mind and body to receive and be still. I appreciate the vocabulary and awareness of my own emotions this course has taught me – Angela –
